2015 ELECTION TRIBUNALS: GHOST NAMES MAY HAVE MADE THE LIST OF LAWYERS WHO REPRESENTED APC AND LALONG, AS AGGRIEVED LAWYERS PREPARE FOR A SHOWDOWN

By: Valentine Adese

As the confusion over the alleged non-payment of the Lawyers that represented Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 Election Petition Tribunals continues, new facts are beginning to emerge indicating that the list submitted to the Governor for payment may have contained ghost names.

Our sources close to the Lawyers and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), have disclosed to REALITY that, the ghost names in the list far outnumbered the actual number of Lawyers that did appeared and represented the APC and Lalong at the 2015 Election Tribunals that sat in the state.

You would recall that the state Chairman of the NBA, Ladak Dafer (Esq) had called for a meeting to resolve the issue(s) among the Lawyers, who represented the APC and Governor Lalong recently. It was reported that senior Lawyers in the group were in attendance.

From information reaching the news desk of REALITY, it was gathered that Garba Pwul (SAN) may have been the only person who was briefed by the APC and Governor Lalong and that other Lawyers in the matter where invitees.

REALITY gathered that it was disclosed at the meeting that, One Hundred Million (N100m) Naira, was allegedly meant to be shared by the invitees after the cases were won and lost but, only few of the Lawyers were settled, while others got nothing. This according to findings set the stage for the agitation.

It was also gathered that, as it stands, there is a serious discrepancy between the fees charged by the Lawyers as a body and the one currently sent to the Governor and the APC by the aggrieved Lawyers, as the earlier list sent to the APC may have contained ghost names.

REALITY further gathered that the aggrieved lawyers are prepared for a showdown with the Governor if the issue(s) are not addressed or settled and the balance of the fees paid.

You would recall that Governor Lalong is also a Lawyer.

REALITY will continue to keep you posted!
