The chairman of the plateau state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jibril Bancir has explained that the Union is on strike on two grounds.
The Chairman, while explaining the situation to REALITY, said that, the NLC simply wants the Federal Government to reverse the new electricity tariff and the new pump price of petroleum product which is now selling at N145.
According to him, “” the Nigerian Government simply wants Labour to divert the issues and want us to discuss personal issues of our members such as, salaries and conditions of service with them and then abandon the fight for the majority of the Nigerian masses.”
“Come to look at it, how many Nigerians are under the employment of government? Why will the government believe that by increasing our salaries the problems that this administrative policy would create would be solved?
Why does the government not find solutions to expected chain effect before announcing the increase of tariff and petroleum prices?
I want you to know that all labour is fighting for is for the future of Nigerians!
We already have our proposal for salary and wage increment proposal before government and that needs a process. So, why do they want us to discuss it now when that is not the purpose of our engaging them now?” he added.
