By: Valentine Adese

In a bid to hasten the means of reducing the lamentable situations of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), University of Jos Sectoral Branch, the Director of  Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Mr. Steve Aluko Daniel, has promises its members to take their letter which is allegedly accusing Prof. Sonni Tyoden to the desirable level it deserves.

Mr. Steve who was addressing members of NUP, Jos sectoral branch during their courtesy visit to him yesterday to remind him of their plight contained in the letter and documents they sent to him recently said, he believes whoever was involved in the cause of the inhuman treatment of the members and their pains, would listen and take the necessary steps to revert such action.

He said, “I even have faith that Prof. Tyoden will listen as a fellow former comrade and will not allow this issue drag too long than necessary. He knows exactly how the CLO operates.”

Earlier, while recapping the issues in the their letter, Chairman of NUP University of Jos Branch, Comrd. Uchenna S. E. Uwajeh, who led the delegation, reminded the Director that out of the 637 workers severed from University of Jos by Prof. Sonni Tyoden, owing to non-payment of their entitlements, 129 of them are already dead, leaving behind their families to face untold hardships.

“Hence we urge you and your organization to assist please!”

You would recall that REALITY had reported yesterday that, The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), University of Jos Sectoral Branch has written the Director of Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) to come to their aid and save their souls as they are languishing owing to the non-payment of their entitlement by the University authority.

In the over 42 paged letter, loaded with exhibits of documents to the Director of CLO, signed by the Chairman of NUP University of Jos Branch, Comrd. Uchenna S. E. Uwajeh, the Union while crying out, said, “We are languishing! We are going extinct, SAVE OUR SOULS (SOS).”.

According to the letter, the Pensioners stated that as severed staff of the University of Jos, they have been suffering and going through untold hardship since their severance on 13th May, 2007.

They stated that 637 of them were severed by Prof. Sunny Tyoden, then as the Vice Chancellor of University of Jos and over 129 of them have died.

“With him, we concluded that at that level of this country, there is hardly any honourable person.” They stated.

Explaining, NUP stated that, “it is rather unfortunate that we were treated this way because, those officers who retired before 1st July, 2007, but, not under severance were placed on their correct monthly CONTISS/CONUASS.

“Permit me to say that Prof. Sonni G. Tyoden severed us to make money out of us for his political campaign”.
