-YOU ARE A SUPER-COMMISISIONER--PPF

The Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Plateau State, Hon. Dayyabu Garga, has charged Journalists in the country to be more professional in their course of reporting.
Hon. Dayyabu who gave this charge during a courtesy call by the Publishers Forum (PF) in Plateau State, said journalist and media organizations must know that the people depend a lot on the information that comes out from them to enable them take critical decision(s).
According to the Commissioner, “if the information so reported is negative, bias and not based on facts, it would also have a chain effect on the consumers and end users”.
He used the visit to urge journalists in the country to see it as a responsibility to report the “truth and only the truth.”
He said, “I admire your calling and profession but, it must be practiced with the highest level of responsibility. The nation and the state need you and will always partner with you and your media organizations. So, you don’t need to report issues mainly to destroy a person or an institution. I will strongly advise you all that the need to cross check your fact(s) before going to press, is very important.
“I will continue to welcome you to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs because, we need your cooperation.
“We in the Ministry know that with your assistance, the activities of this Ministry would be better projected. I am also aware that as journalists and media owners, you know that the heart of the Local Governments in the state is this Ministry and people need to know what the ministry is doing to develop the grass-root.”
Earlier in his opening speech, the Chairman of the Forum, Chief Sariki Zailani, the publisher of The National Star Newspaper, who led the team, had told the Commissioner that the body came to congratulate the Commissioner on his appointment and to commend him for the feat he has achieved within the few weeks of his appointment.
The Chairman said, “The Forum sees you as a Super-Commissioner, for the feat you have attained within the few weeks of your appointment. We commend you sir!”
However, adding his voice to that of the Chairman, Prince Valentine Adese, the Publisher of REALITY NEWSPAPER, told the commissioner that the forum is ready to work with him and the ministry to actually project the ministry to the nation and the outside world.
He said, the forum would however call on the Chairman to patronize the Community Newspaper in the state, as they are closer and trusted by the people at the grass-root.
