Constitutional Amendments: Senate Approves INEC To Conduct LG Elections, As Opposition Parties kick in Plateau State

There are strong indications yesterday, that Local Government Councils with no democratically elected leadership, may no longer receiving allocation from the Federal Government, except it is democratically constituted, the Nigerian Senate has proposed.

You would recall that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong,  has just reconstituted a Transition Committees in the 17 LGAs of Plateau state, that has set opposition political parties in the state kicking.

The Senate at the plenary on Tuesday approved that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should warm up and start conducting local Government Area (LGA) elections.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who presided over the debate on the report by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review, put the proposed amendment to vote and the ayes had it.
