JUBILATION GALORE, AS MR. PAUL JATAU, EMERGES AS CHAIRMAN, NUJ PLATEAU STATE COUNCIL

It was jubilation galore at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Council’s Secretariat yesterday, as Mr. Paul Jatau of the Plateau Publishing Chapel (PPC) emerged as the new Chairman of the Council, after a well contested Chairmanship position between himself and Putmang Iliya Amos of the PRTV TV Chapel.

Seven positions were up for grabs but, of most important interest to all present during the election exercise yesterday, was the position of the Chairman of the Council. At the end of the day by 6.15pm, Mr. Paul Jatau, was named winner amidst a lot of cheers and celebrations by Journalists, who patiently waited all day at the state secretariat.
 

You would recall that the Credentials Committee was set up in July to see to the smooth running of the state council elections in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the NUJ.

After weeks of grueling campaigns for the past weeks, the die was finally cast yesterday when the accredited Journalists in Plateau State Council came out in their numbers to vote.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Paul Jatau, promised to do his best and at the same time unite the Plateau State Council, which has seen one of the worst divisions lately.

“We therefore pledge to do our best in the discharge of this onerous responsibility bestowed on us. It is a fact that any house divided against its self cannot stand the test of time. We must therefore strive to work out means through which we can become a formidable force once again. We must begin to talk to each other regularly and fashion out ways to work as a unit so that where ever we go we would earn respect as a council”, Jatau stated in his acceptance speech.

He also promised to see that the state Secretariat of the NUJ is renovated and made more conducive for members, as well as seeing to the welfare of Journalists on the Plateau.

Other members of his EXCO include, Ben Mitu of the NTA Chapel, as Vice Chairman, Peter Amine of Correspondence Chapel, as the Secretary, Jabbe Detawo of PRTV TV Chapel, as the Assistant Secretary, Ayuko Pwaspo of the PRTV Radio Chapel, as the Financial Secretary, Gwamkat Gwamzhi of Highland FM Chapel, as Treasurer and Sunday Taiwo of Newslink Chapel, as Auditor.
