The Plateau State Action Democratic Party (ADP) Chairman, Chief Nanyah Daman, has cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Simon Lalong to conduct Local Government Councils’ election to fill the vacant elective offices in the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in order to promote peace, reduce hate and improve the lives of rural dwellers in the state.Chief Damang, who spoke to REALITY in his office yesterday, also disclosed that the Inter-party Advisory Council in the state has also called on the Governor to conduct the elections for the same reasons.
Chief Nanyah, who was in high spirit, also confidently stated that, “the ADP is set for election any day and time, the party has strategized to even win the APC and the Governor at the Governor’s poll unit.”
CHIEF NANYAH IN PART SAID:
|CHIEF NANYAH, ADP CHAIRMAN|
“Well, like I would always say, you cannot cover illegality with illegality. What the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong and his party the APC are doing is not right.
“Initially, the state Governor said, he was waiting for the Ministry of Justice to advise him on the Harmonized Local Government Law passed by the State House of Assembly, before he would sign it.
“He has finally signed the bill into Law, the question now is, why the extension of the tenure of the Transition Committee by another two months?
“This is another illegality. You remembered that we had questioned the appointments of the TIC a month ago.
“You would recall then I had praised him for signing the Bill into Law and I had stated that, the blame of not conducting elections to fill the vacancies in the 17 Local Government Councils in the state had shifted to the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), however with an addendum that, the Governor has to provide the need funds for the elections.
“We know that PLASIEC has to just give a date for the elections. But the printing of ballot papers and other materials for the election require money. So who provides them?
“Agreed that PLASIEC has not complained about lack of funds, then they should give the political parties who are sponsoring candidates a date!
“For the ADP as a party, a date from PLASIEC will to a large extent, stop these illegalities, hatred, misgivings and the perception that, the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration led by Governor Lalong is not serious.
“As a party, ADP is prepared for elections any day and time. We are even prepared to defeat the governor in his own polling unit.
“You would recall that the Inter-party Advisory Council in the state has met recently and has advised the governor to call on PLASIEC to conduct this much anticipated LGC elections.”
