By: Valentine Adese,
As the electorates gear up in preparation for the forthcoming general elections slated for 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the acceptance of the incumbent Governor of Plateau state, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has began to rise.
The rise in his acceptability REALITY gathered is not unconnected with his recent explanation to the people of Plateau State that he was not going to allow Cattle Colony in the state.
You would recall that the people of the state had rated Rt. Hon. Lalong, as one of the worst Governor that have governed the state, when the name of the state was earlier published among other states in the country that have donated land for the commencement of the Federal Government’s Cattle Colony policy.
Many, who are eligible to vote in the forthcoming election among pundits in the state, have expressed further hopes that his acceptability rate would rise if the Law banning Open Grazing is passed by the state’s House of Assembly and signed into Law by the Governor.
You would recall that the governor in several fora has openly expressed his support for a Ranching Policy in the state to be supported by the Federal Government.
Pundits who spoke to REALITY have also opined that the forth coming Local Government elections in Plateau state, slated for 17th of February, if it is conducted peacefully and fairly without government interference, will be an added boost to the rising profile of the Governor in the state, as 2019 approaches.
Just on the 26th of January, 2018, members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) under the platform of Concerned Kanam APC Stakeholder/VOLA in Dengi in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, endorsed Governor Lalong for a second term bid.
In their Press statement, they had anchored their decision to support a second bid of Governor Lalong on the achievements of the Governor in the state since 2015 to date.
Kanam Concerned Stakeholders, who also adopted the second bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, while adopting Governor Lalong for 2019 stated that:
“We also noticed that the All Progressive Congress (APC) government in Plateau State, under the able leadership of, His Excellency Barrister Simon Bako Lalong has performed credibly in restoring peace and equitable distribution of appointments and projects across the state”.
“His prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments to deserving civil servants and other sundry workers, his policy of continuity through the completion of left-over projects by the immediate past administration and his humility in governance are clear attributes of a leader who deserves our support”.
“Accordingly, we the Concerned Stakeholders/VOLA of Kanam APC, having viewed all these achievements by Mr. President and our Governor, hereby resolved to adopt President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Simon Bako Lalong, for a second term in office so as they can continue with the good things they have started”.
