Health they say is wealth. For this reason, Hon. (Pharm.) Obinna Emeneka member representing Anambra East Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, as a way of giving back to his society is organized a free medical outreach, which kicked off on Saturday 24th of February at the Umueri General Hospital.
This year’s free medical outreach with the theme: “Ensuring Good and Effective Representation”, was flagged-off by Dr. Joe Akabuike, the Commissioner for Health Anambra State.
Hon. Emeneka in his address said, “The purpose of this outreach is to assist the sick ones amongst us. This is not the first time we are doing this, but this one is special because it will go across the whole Anambra East Constituency”. He said.
He emphasized the importance to Umueri community on the need for constant health care, “The health of Ndi-Anambra is very important to us and with projects like this, I am calling on communities to avail themselves for constant checkups."
Pharm. Emenaka thanked the Hon Commissioner for Health, Igwe of Umueri, The medical team, and the management of Umueri General Hospital, for the part they played in making the medical outreach a success.
Dr. Joe Akabuike, the Commissioner for Health on his part, reiterated the commitment of Anambra state government led by His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano, in reviving the health sector.
In his words, he said, “We want to implement health reforms. So many people because of logistics cannot afford to take prepare care of themselves, but this government is committed through the Health Insurance Scheme initiated by the state government. With this scheme, there will be in addition not just of workers, but with drugs and other facilities to be provided by government”.
The Commissioner while thanking Hon. Emenaka for the initiative said, “You have been a philanthropist to Anambra East constituency and beyond”.
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Sir Benneth Emeka (Oke-Ebo 2 of Umueri) while addressing the crowd hailed Hon. Emeneka for choosing Umueri as his kick off point praying that God almighty will reward him for this kind gesture.
The Royal Father also thanked the government of the state through the effort of the Commissioner in attracting development to his community hoping that more will come. He concluded by praying for the healing on all those who will take drugs been donated.
On his part, the consultant in charge of Umueri General Hospital, Dr. Akunne Innocent, expressed his happiness on the uniqueness of this year’s outreach, which gives room for beneficiaries (patients) to come back for further treatment if the need arises.
Coordinator of Hon. Emeneka free medical outreach told reporters that, “This crusade is not new, it started since 2012 and has been mostly done during August meetings but this year’s own is different because we want everybody to be involved. It will still be held at other communities in Anambra West which includes Nsugbe, Igbariam, Aguleri, Anam and Nando”.
Chairman Anambra East local government, Hon. Tony Colins Nwabunwanne saluted the courage of Hon. Emeneka, saying, “ I salute the courage of Hon Emeneka. These are the type of things we need to be seeing and we encourage such initiatives. Hon Emeneka is someone who delivers and I call on other law makers to emulate him”.
Furthermore, Dr. Sunny Nduka, the consultant pharmacist of the outreach, emphasized the importance of this year’s outreach. “This is a health mission and we are actually trying to empower this community health wise. One of our major concerns is on cardiac arrest and related issues because we need to reduce its rise amongst our people. We intend to use the data gathered here to advice government on the best way to go about it”.
