The Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on Monday, 12th February 2018, celebrated its Silver Jubilee amidst praises for what the Faculty has achieved over the years.

The celebration, which held at the University Auditorium, had in attendance the former Senate President, Dr. Ken Nnammani, who was the Chairman of the occasion amongst other dignitaries.

Dr. Ken Nnammani in his address congratulated the Institution and the Faculty for reaching and achieving heights attained.

 He said, “We are here to celebrate not only the Faculty of Management Sciences but, the Institution as a whole. I am always delighted to come to the school because, I am a product of this great University. There are many Universities in this country but, not too many have the value of Nnamdi Azikiwe University”.

The Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku (FAS), on his part advised students to put in more seriousness in their academics. He elaborated on the view of the guest speaker on the need to manage their lives, Institution, and society properly. 

“The world is changing. I.C.T has driven a lot of things and we need to move along. I thank the Obi of Onitsha for doing justice to the topic with his experience and exposure”. Prof. Joseph Ahaneku said.

His Royal Majesty Obi Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, CFR, Mni (Agogidi), the Obi of Onitsha, who delivered a paper titled, “Management Science in Nigeria in the past twenty-five years: A boardroom perspective”, defined Management science as, “All disciplines deployed by an enterprise to produce/deliver goods, services and welfare optimally”.

The Obi of Onitsha, went further to say that, “Change, innovation, creative thinking are imperative. I advise companies and staff on the need to continue to improve themselves because change is constant”.

The Royal Majesty pointed out the need for team work, while stressing that, it is a great link to quick development and multi-skill. He encouraged the production of quality products, transparency and social conscience.

Dean Faculty of Management Science, Canon Prof. Anayo Nkamnebe, earlier in his welcome address, thanked the VC of the University for his support in making the event a success.

“Today marks the Silver Jubilee of this great Faculty, and I thank God for the journey so far. This Faculty started in a 3bedroom flat but thank God we are where we are today. Our achievements wouldn’t have been possible without God’s grace and mercy”. Prof. Nkamnebe said.

The climax of the event was the presentation of awards to the founding members of the Faculty, as well as, to Dr. Ken Nnammani and the Obi of Onitsha.

A minute silence was observed in honour of late Prof. Alex Umunna Mbachu and late Prof. Ike Christian Onwuchekwa, who were both among the founding members of the Faculty.
