The Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Anambra state, Mr. Mike Okoye, has advised Anamberians to pay their taxes and expect more developments in the state.Mr. Mike Okoye, gave this advice when his Ministry met with the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Economic Planning to defend its 2018 Budget on Monday 5th of February 2018. at the Committee room of the Assembly complex.
According to the Commissioner, “Anamberians must understand that paying their tax is very important because, this will go a long way in determining the performance of the Chief Willie Obiano-led administration and in delivering the dividends of democracy to Ndi-Anambra”.
“There is a direct linkage to how much tax an individual pay and development on the field in Anambra. So, I am also using this opportunity to call on the citizens, to be part of the success of these projects because, this Budget implementation is on the willingness of the citizens, to continue to pay their taxes”. He stated.
Mr. Mike Okoye, while defending his Ministry’s Budget went further to say, “The main aim is to improve the general revenue administration of the state. We as a Ministry are making serious efforts to attract more development partners. We attracted 5 last year including more grants, more counterpart funds and we now need to start assessing the economic impacts and outcome”.
“This is a critical year because, it is the first year of the second term of this government. This year is a year that we will continue in full the type of legacy this government intends to leave behind”.
The Chairman, House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Obinna Chris Emeneka, representing Anambra East Constituency, while reacting to the presentation and submissions of the Commissioner, informed the Commissioner and his team that the House Committee on Financial Appropriation will always come for over-sight function to ensure that what have been demanded will be stuck too and put in place for everybody to see.
