5 MONTHS TO PARTY PRIMARY YET, NO SIGNS THAT THERE ARE CLEAR CONTESTANTS AGAINST GOV. LALONG

By: Valentine Adese,

With less than 5 months to the slated period and month for Primaries to be conducted in August, 2018, by political parties in Nigeria, as directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there are no clear indications that Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State is going to face any strong contender from within the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the other opposition political parties in the state.

GOV. LALONG
The contest from investigation is more likely with the masses and the Governor over his 2015 campaign promises and what he has achieved so far.

You would recall that, apart from Governor Simon Lalong’s administration’s initiated physical projects that were largely absent since 2015, which the opposition political parties operating in the state have continued to query and hold against him, the masses have rather praised him for his continuity policy of continuing abandoned and uncompleted projects in the state.

Within the opposition political parties in the state, over 20 members are already seeking to pick the ticket of their parties for the 2019 Governorship political battle. A lot of manipulations and posters are already flooding the state capital Jos and the opposition parties’ secretariat gates.

In all, many are still not convinced that most of those faces showing and indicating their aspirations through their posters are willing to contest, as their reach to the masses is slow and low with 5 months to party primary.

Rather, Governor Lalong has painstakingly taken his strategy of returning to Government House Rayfield to the people by not only listening to their voices lately but, implementing policies in the direction of the wishes and needs of the people.

Governor Lalong has even began to poach into the strength and catchment areas of the opposition parties, with his recent appointments of Commissioners into his cabinet.

As political watchers continue to observe, they have opined that the lack of activities from the contenders from the opposition parties, is a draw back in achieving their aspiration to take the seat from the APC and Governor Lalong.
