The Governor of Anambra state, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano has been urged by the Anambra State House of Assembly to direct the Commissioner responsibily for road construction and environmental matters to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the failed portion of Afor Nkpor-Eke Nkpor road, which spur to Nkpor Technical College.
In a motion sponsored by Hon. (Mrs.) Nkoli Mmegbuaneze, member representing Idemili North constituency, she called on the number one citizen to come to the aid of Idemili people.
Shedding more light on the motion, Hon. Mmegbuaneze explained that, “Afor Nkpor road is a strategic bypass that for many years has helped to decongest the traffic jam at Nkpor junction, as travellers from Enugu axis heading to Ojoto, Umuoji, Nnobi, use this road to beat the traffic congestion at Nkpor junction”.
She lamented that, “Acute flooding and erosion has sacked families from their ancestral homes there by causing untold hardship to the people”.
The honourable called on the Ministry of Road Construction, Road Furniture and Maintenance in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment to effectively address the hardship being faced by the inhabitants and road users as well as check the perennial congestion at Nkpor junction.
Hon. Ezenwune Febian Chukwuka, member representing Idemili South while adding his voice in support of the motion stated that, “The urgent rehabilitation of the failed portion of this road will not only be beneficial to Idemili people but to the whole state. I hope that the needful will be done soonest”.
Member representing Njikoka 2, Hon. Ndubisi Peter Ibida on his part looked at the commercial value of the road and cautioned that work be done as early as possible with the rains fast approaching.
“Considering the fact that this road is located towards the commercial nerve center of the state, fixing the road with proper drainage should be done as the raining season is fast approaching to avoid any disaster in the future”, Hon. Ibida stated.
