About 100 widows and youths from Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas of Bauchi state have been trained on Modern farming techniques in horticulture by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara.
The Programme was carried out under Dogara’s, “Capacity Building on Agriculture”, facilitated by Federal College of Horticulture Dadinkowa, under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, in line with the Federal Government’s policy to boost the Agricultural sector in the country.

The Speaker, while speaking at the occasion over the weekend in Bogoro said, the aim of the project was to build the capacity of Widows, Women and Youth on production and processing of Horticultural outputs.

The Speaker, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Iliya Habila said that the three local government areas Hon. Dogara is representing at the National Assembly is an agricultural area where most of its inhabitants are farmers, maintaining that the training will help them to boost their farm produce which will in turn reduce poverty and hunger among them.

He urged the farmers to pay attention to the training and put to good use what they learned during the training.

Dogara, while advising the beneficiaries not to sell Agricultural inputs distributed to them, urged them to put them to use in their farms so as to boost their production.

He said the training is one among several interventions given to the people as part of his effort to bring succor and dividends of democracy to the people of his constituency.

Representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Abuja,  Alhaji Hamza Shehu,  speaking at the occasion said, “Widows, Youth and Women were educated on processing of horticultural crops. I want to commend the participants for their conduct. I advise you to implement what you have learnt in order to develop your farms and your economy”.

He said the Participants were trained on new methods of clearance of their farms, planting, harvesting and storage of their horticultural products.

Alhaji Shehu applauded the Speaker and the Federal Government for the interventions which he said will help to develop agriculture from the grassroots.

At the end of training participants were given liquid fertilizer, spraying machines, modern seeds, insecticides, mat and money to boost their agricultural activities.

Some of the beneficiaries, who could not hide their joy expressed gratitude to the Speaker and pledged to make the best use of what they have learnt which according to him will go a long way in boosting Agricultural activities in Bauchi state.
