The equation for the 2019 general election has started taking shape, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in North Central Zone of Nigeria, has started reviewing its past mistakes, as they see themselves as a re-branded family.
The rebranded family status of the Plateau State chapter of the party was reechoed today, when the North Central Zone Chairman of the party visited the Plateau state Secretariat of the party today, to seek for members’ cooperation in the forthcoming general election.
Hon. Theophilus Dakanshan, called for unity among members and urged them not to repeat the mistakes of the past that made the party to disappoint Nigerians but, that they should stand with the people and collect power in order to tackle the sufferings the All Progressive Congress (APC) has and is still put the people of Plateau and Nigerians through.
In an interview with newsmen at the venue, Hon. Dakashan expressed hope that PDP would win Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa states in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections based on perceived issues on ground.
He said, “Even the peace that they said they have achieved on the Plateau, how true is it? The very day the president was here, there were killings in two local government areas. Even now that I am speaking to you, close to 3 people were killed in Dong a settlement close to the Capital of Plateau State.”
Hon. Dakashan said he has been going round the zone in order to mobilize PDP members and to institute the need for tolerance, party loyalty and removal of imposition of candidates among others.
In response to his address, all other speakers at the venue, talked about a re-branded PDP in Plateau, especially, in the Northern Central Zone.
They asked Nigerians, particularly, the People of Plateau State for forgiveness for what happened in the last gubernatorial elections and blamed themselves for the loss of the PDP in state.
According to them, they are happy with the PDP restructuring committee and promised to join hands to reposition the party. They however, reemphasized that it must come from within.
Those, who spoke also said, that the party shall pass through the present stage but, that there is the need to return to the drawing board and make things right even as they seek the face of God in all their activities.
They appealed to all gladiators in the gubernatorial race for the next elections to please make sacrifices when the time comes and that whoever emerges should be supported by all and sundry.
The Women leader of the state chapter asked for increase in the percentage of women appointed, as they are the ones at the end that would come out to vote. She threatened that if they are not given adequate representation again, they are ready to jump ship again.
They said they are not begging for positions to be handed over to them because they are women, but because they are qualified too. She urged women to also be there for themselves.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, the speaker, assured the party that Plateau youths are behind the party and promised to stand firm and protect their votes in the next elections. He however, urged the EXCO of the party to ensure they keep to their words
