By: Valentine Adese,

As the nation moves towards the much awaited 2019 general elections, aspirants have started writing their political parties to indicate their interest to vie, especially, for the governorship seat in Plateau State.

GOV. LALONG
From the All Progressive Party (APC) chapter in Plateau state, only Governor Simon Bako Lalong, the incumbent Governor of the state, at the time of filling this report, is the only person that has indicated interest to vie for the governorship seat.

While at the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Plateau state chapter, Pastor Margret Inusa is becoming the first female aspirant to express her interest formally to contest.

On the platform of the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s record as it stand today, shows that, Prof. Shedrack Best, Hon. Caleb Muffuang, Sen. J. T. Useni, Barr Timothy Parlong, Sen. Victor Lar, have written letters to the state chapter of the party, expressing their interest for the number one seat of the state.

Others under the platform of the PDP that have written the party also include, Mr. Timothy Basso, and Hon. EXO Pyennap.

Although there is a strong rumour that a former governor of the state, Mr. Fidelis Tapgun has interest to also vie, his letter is yet to be before the party.

From the above, 3 aspirants of the PDP are from the Central zone of the state, while the remaining 4 are from the same southern zone with the incumbent governor.

You would recall that the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) has slated August 2018 for the conduct of party primaries across all registered political parties operating in the country.
