The Honourable Members of Anambra State House of Assembly have commended Governor Willie Obiano and the Commissioner of Police (CP), Anambra State Command, Garba Umar, for deploying security men within Ayamelum Constituency and environs, that has led to return of normalcy of business activities in the area.
In its plenary on Tuesday, 8th May 2018, the member representing Ayamelum Constituency Hon. Uche Okafor, moved a motion commending Chief Obiano and CP, Garba Umar, for coming to the aid of his Constituency.
It would be recalled that Ayamelum Constituency and environs have continued to suffer in recent times from cases of rape, attacks and kidnapping from unknown men, which led to the Members of the House calling for the urgent attention of the number one citizen of the state and security agencies in the state.
Quoting Sections 14: 2b of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended” which clearly provides that, “The security and the protection of lives and property of every citizen is the responsibility of the government”, Hon. Uche Okafor hailed the Governor, describing him, as a true son of Ndi Anambra.
In his words, “I can confidently say that free movement has returned to Ayamelum Constituency. We can now accommodate more investors because security personnel are now on the ground”.
“Ayamelum is referred to as the food basket of the state because we are one of the largest in rice production in the state and we will continue to produce more because we are now living in peace”.
Hon. Obinna Emeneka, Member representing Anambra East Constituency while supporting the motion praised Governor Obiano who in his agenda placed security as number one, as a result that Anambra is the safest state in the county.
He saluted the C.P, Garba Umar explaining that he has continued to use good approach in tackling security challenges in the state.
Hon. Emeneka advised both the Governor and the CP to maintain the tempo and also employ back-ups so as not to be taken unaware again.
Member representing Awka South, Hon Nnamdi Okafor added by saying, "For a society to strive, security is paramount." He commended the CP and other security agencies for putting in their best in restoring tight security in Ayamelum and the entire state at large.
