Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has maintained that the forthcoming Local Government (LG) elections is still fixed for 9th October 2024, after reviewing the impact of the ongoing Nationwide Protest in the country.
The Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Plangji Daniel Cishak in a press briefing at its Headquarters today, further disclosed that the Commission has however, made a few adjustments to the activities in the build-up to the elections.
The Chairman flanked by other members of the Commission said, “You will recall that last month precisely, on the 10th of July, I addressed a press briefing here on the release of election timetable preparatory to the 9th October Local Government Elections.

“This is to ensure that Political Parties that have earlier scheduled their Primaries and have notified the Commission within the period of the protest and curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis are not disenfranchised.
“PLASIEC remains fully committed to ensure that all political parties can participate in the elections without, and disadvantage. We want to reassure the public and all stakeholders that the rescheduling will not affect fairness or transparency of the election process. Our focus is on providing a level playing field and equitable opportunity for all parties involved”.
Mr. Cishak, took the forum to inform Journalists that only Seven (7) Political Parties have indicated their interest to participate in the election. He, however, did not disclosed, their names.
Members of the CSOs and IPAC present at the briefing commended the Commission especially the Chairman for the proactive steps.

REVISED NOTICE OF YEAR 2024 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN PLATEAU STATE
As part of its mandate and in compliance with Part IV, Sections 16(1) and 22(1) of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2016, Section 197(1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended 2023) and Electoral Act, 2022, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) wishes to notify the leadership of all political parties and the general public that elections shall be conducted in the Seventeen (17) Local Government Councils of Plateau State on Wednesday, 9th October, 2024 between 8.00am and 3.00pm.
Consequently, all prospective candidates are expected to obtain nomination forms in respect of the election into the offices of Chairmen and Councilors of the 17 Local Government Councils from the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) Headquarters at No.7 John Mark Samchi Road, Jos from Friday, 16th August, 2024 to Monday, 19th August, 2024 between the hours of 8.00am and 4.00pm daily.
