NASARAWA STATE LGCS’ ELECTION: APC WON BECAUSE ALL THE CHAIRMANSHIP CANDIDATES WERE CAREFULLY PICKED

Nasarawa State Government has disclosed that contrary to speculations, the recent consensus that led to the emergence of APC Chairmanship candidates in last Saturday's Local Government Council (LGC) Elections in the state has nothing to do with religion.

The State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who made this disclosure and clarification during his Monthly Media Briefing in Lafia today, Tuesday, explained that all the Chairmanship candidates of the APC were carefully picked by stake holders of the party in their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The Governor, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistance on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, explained that “when it comes to issues of public interest Governor Sule is neither a Moslem nor Christian”.

He said the aim of presenting consensus candidates was aimed at “checking mating internal wrangling within the party”.

He said the Governor in his usual interest to carry every member of the party along has directed the leadership of the party (APC) to refund all fees paid by party members whom the consensus did not favour.

The Senior Special Assistance also announced that with the signing into Law of the Nasarawa State Local Government Law 2024, by Governor Sule, Local Government Councils in the state have been granted full autonomy.

 According to Mr. Ahemba, “Local Government Councils in the state can now operate without any form of external interference”.

He said the Governor being a democrat, Seven (7) Councillorship seats were won by opposition political parties during the Saturday's Local Government elections.

He, however, commended the people of the state for conducting themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner during the elections, while expressing the hope that such spirit of understanding would continue for the betterment of the state.
