Although the New Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council Barr. J. K. Chris, may have come on board with radical objectives to change and redirect the development of the Local Government, his goals may be shaken with the present attitude of his work force at his information unity. Reality investigation can authoritatively state.
With recent developments in the Local Government and starting from his first day in office, the Unit has continued to suppress information relating to the good of the Chairman.
Apart from the fact that they made efforts to keep the Chairman away from visiting Journalists to the LG on his first official day in office, the unit staff made sure through their efforts that the event where the Chairman swore in the Secretary of the Council, was poorly covered.
Not satisfied by that act alone, the staff of the unit made it possible for the same Journalists, who came to cover the event to be humiliated. They closed their eyes, while these Journalists were been manhandled by security officers thereby not allowing them to observe the event and processes of the election of the Legislative Arm Principal Officers adequately.
The staff rather accept responsibility for their failures, tried to put the blame of the ugly events on the Chairman, Barr. Chris whom they claim caused the unfortunate harassment because he has no plans for the Journalists covering the events.
Sadly also is that the activities of the Chairman are never made public since he assumed office, neither are the outcomes of the events and other activities of the Chairman made known to media houses in the state. On the other hand, whenever they choose to make it public, they apply selective approach.
The fire incident at Katako Market recently is a classical example, where the role played by the Chairman is not made known to the public by the Information unit, during and after the incident was brought under control.
TO BE CONTINUED.
