READ THE FULL SPEECH OF THE CHAIRMAN OF IPA BELOW:-
The recipient of the Award, Nde John Gobak mni, OFR, his well wishers, men of the pen profession, ladies and gentlemen.
Permit me to stand on exiting protocol.
The Independent Publishers Association (IPA) is here today in recognition of the selfless, remarkable and progressive services rendered to our amiable and dear state, Plateau, by the erudite elder statesman, Nde John Gobak both in and out of the civil service.
Nde Gobak, throughout his sojourn in the civil service, where he worked in various capacities rising through the ranks till his retirement as Permanent Secretary has observed all the civil service laid down Code of Conduct and exhibited high sense of patriotism in the discharge of his duties.
He was never associated with corruption, truancy to work, nepotism and any other vices common amongst most civil servants of today.
Gobak has served under Military administrators and civilian governors in various capacities, which are too numerous to mention, however, suffice me to mention a few which included: Keffi Local Government Sole Administrator, before Nasarawa State was excised from Plateau, Secretary to the Commissioner of Special Duties, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Plateau State Government.
Due to his loyalty, hard work, commitment to given responsibilities and trustworthiness, all the successive administrations since 1999 to date sought his services to help them achieve their set goals, which he gladly did, not as working for them, but for the state.
While under, Chief Joshua Dariye led administration, Gobak served as, Secretary to the state Government, Secretary to the High Powered Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate cause of the September 7, 2001, Jos ethno-religious crises.
In April 2004, he was appointed as Secretary to the Presidential Committee to look into the persistent crises in Plateau Southern Senatorial Zone, under the chairmanship of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.
Under the Jonah David Jang led Administration, Gobak’s service was sought to head the Agricultural Training Services Centre and Marketing Limited as its chairman.
In the current administration of Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, Gobak headed the Peace and Reconciliation Committee between the Berom and Fulani and also Plateau State Staff Audit and Verification Committee where the Governor expressed satisfaction with the job done.
In all the capacities he rendered his services, Nde left indelible footprints of successes and patriotism worthy of emulation.
This erudite elder statesman has played a great role in sustaining democracy and preventing it from being abused and truncated by democracy assassins in 2004, when President Olusegun Obasanjo imposed a state of emergency on the state, and some of its profiteers never wanted its lift after its six months expiration. Gobak did not key into their sinister motive by compromising the handing over documents to then elected governor.
Nde, it is the pleasure of IPA to recognize your sterling, selfless, remarkable and progressive services to our dear state with an award of Selfless Distinguished Service. May it spur you into doing more, and may the younger ones emulate these remarkable legacies you bequeath to us for the betterment, peace, progress and prosperity of Plateau State.
Thank you and God bless.
