BREAKING: APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN: PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER OF DEFUNCT CPC, BACKS SEN. AL-MAKURA, CALLS ON GOV. MASARI, EL-RUFAI TO QUIT SILENCE

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Former Members and Stakeholders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to endorse, Distinguished Sen. Tanko Almakura, as the next National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

SEN. ALMAKURA

The Members and Stakeholders in a press statement, dated 1st March, 2022, made available to REALITY Newspaper, also called on El-Rufai and Masari, both Governors of Kaduna and Katsina States respectively, to also quit their silence, as it is no longer golden in the face of the National Chairmanship tussle currently rocking the APC.

HON. PODAR JOHNSON

Speaking exclusively to REALITY, one of the signatory to the press statement, the former State Secretary of the CPC, Plateau State chapter and a onetime gubernatorial candidate of the party in Plateau State, Hon. Podar Johnson, explained that, with what is happening in the party, the moment of truth has come.

The press statement in part reads: “This is the moment of truth in the country and a clarion call to President Muhammadu Buhari (GCON).

“We congratulate the President for signing into Law the 2022 Electoral Act, and this has put to rest the wrong perception about Mr. President.

“This shows to the world that, Mr. President is a real democrat, and to us, it is now over to the electoral body, that is INEC, to do the needful.

“We also want to take this moment of true to call on the President to endorse Distinguished Sen. Tanko Almakura, as the next National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our position is owing to the historical fact that, Sen. Almakura is coming from the CPC family, a critical party that formed the APC.

“You will recall that, the CPC, ANPP and ACN, among other political parties, which are now defunct, under an agreement, form the APC.

“Gentlemen of the Press, from the historical trend of the APC, you will agree with us that, the ACN has produced Two (2) National Chairmen for the APC to date, Bisi Akande, and Adams Oshomole respectively.

Also, the incumbent Extra Ordinary Chairman, Mai Malam Buni is also from the ACN family. From the trend you can see that, the defunct ACN has produced Three (3) National Chairmen for the APC to date while the ANPP has produced Oyegun, also as a National Chairman.

“This fact readily exposes the fact that, the only major partner in the merger that has not produced a National Chairman is the CPC family.

“It must be noted that, from the unfolding events in the APC, the CPC family members are not aspiring to contest for the Presidency, but for the seat of the National Chairman. We strongly remain grateful to the entire APC members and stakeholders that, the CPC is currently enjoying the Presidential ticket, which was graciously given to it by the others.

SEN. ALMAKURA

“To further add to the reasons why we are calling on the President to endorse Al-makura is that, he (Almakura) has been the only governor from the CPC family in the North Central Zone to date and has shown capacity to manage the affairs of the party.

“We know that, Mr. President is aware of all these facts we are putting before you with respect to the credible status of Sen. Almakura.

“We are also aware of the rumour making the rounds that, the Presidency has endorsed, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu. We want to hold this, as propaganda with a definite purpose.

“The truth is that, most of the aspirants for the seat of the National Chairman apart for Distinguished Sen. Almakura, are from political parties that are yet to tender their Certificate of deregistration, as a political party for them to earn the mantle of leadership within the merger.

“Gentlemen of the Press, it is a fact that almost all the disgruntled people that were not happy with the PDP and came seeking refuge within the APC, 70% of them have left the APC back to the PDP, as they found that the  APC cannot accommodate their political ideologies.

“CPC was a Movement and this legacy cannot just end with Mr. President. This movement must continue after him and this is one of the major reason(s) why we are supporting Almakura from the CPC family.

“Mr. President is a Movement hence, we had over 12.5 million people following his ideals, and ideology and this is among the reason(s) why his followers like us on the Plateau are yearning for a leader from the defunct CPC in order to allow continuity of the structure, ideology and followership.

“The endorsement of Sen. Almkura, will give us a sense of leadership and for movement, as we have seen National Chairmen from the ANPP and the ACN.

“These is the position that all of us from the defunct CPC in Plateau State hold.

“We call on Governors, El-fufai and Masari of Kaduna and Katsina States to end their silence as members of the CPC family on this matter and come out to influence the President on the need to look at our demand critically”.
