ASUU STRIKE: STUDENTS PROTEST AGAIN IN PLATEAU STATE

It is no news that, the students of Plateau State University [PLASU] Bokkos, have been at home for the past three months, since no academic activity is going on in the institution, as a result of the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staffs Union of University [ASUU] Plateau State University chapter.

This ongoing strike cannot be far from what may have masterminded the Students Union Government [SUG] to mobilize its members, with the alleged support of the National Association of Nigerian Students [NANS], National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS) and other students union bodies in solidarity to embarked on a peaceful protest to send to the government their message of displeasure, concern and frustration caused by the strike action.

The protest march, which saw students in their numbers marching through to the Plateau State Government House in Little Rayfield, on 4^th April, 2022, started from the popular Old Airport  Junction in Jos, within the Plateau State capital

In a telephone interview with REALITY, the SUG President of PLASU, Mr. Kaze Peter Arin, explained to REALITY that, their actions became necessary due to the inability of the state government to meet up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sign with ASUU PLASU chapter sometime last year.

The protesting students carried placards with different inscriptions and were received by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Prof. Danladi Atu, who informed them that the government is doing its best to see that the strike comes to an end.

Atu, assured the students that, a meeting would be conveyed on Thursday, 7^th April, 2022 , with all the warring parties and that the SUG leadership is invited to witness the proceeding.

You would recalled, that ASUU, PLASU chapter has on the 18^th of December, 2021 called on all its member to embarked on an indefinite strike following the inability of the government to meet up to their  demand and the agreement  reached.

The demands includes issues of, allowances, staff quarters, Electricity within the school premises, insecurity, more hostels accommodation, among others.
