Plateau State High Court, Jos main complex, located in heart of the state capital has becomes a shadow of its self and a ghost complex. It has become quiet as a graveyard and looking so empty beyond imagination due to the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by Judicial Staff Union (JUSUN) Plateau State chapter.
REALITY, while on an investigative visit to the complex on 5th April 2022, saw all the offices under lock and keys, with no single human activities going anywhere close to the court premises, aside the birds that have found comfort with no human disturbances.
You would recalled that, the Judicial Staff Union (JUSUN) in the state had on 7th of March, 2022, called on all its members to embark on an indefinite strike action, due to some issues such as, Financial Autonomy, Staffs welfare, amongst others, which have not been addressed, by the Court Management and partly by the state government.
From the findings and reality on ground, the ripple effect of the three weeks, five days old strike cannot be over emphasized especially, with several rights of citizens been trampled upon because of the inability of the state courts to sit and hear cases.
Its effect also can be described as delaying and denying justice on lots of citizens under detention in different police stations and correctional centers across the state.
The inability of the Courts to sit and administrative activities to hold, is defeating and destroy the hope which the Common man holds that, the Nigeria Judiciary is the last hope and therefore possibly lead to some form of observed lawlessness within the state.
Efforts to speak to any on the Union members or any Judiciary Staff proved abortive, as no one was on ground.
