A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has raised fresh alarm over the increasing cases of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Kano state.
During its monthly press briefing yesterday in Kano, CITAD disclosed that, no fewer than 80 cases of gender-based violence and domestic related issues have been reported.
The organization’s Gender Project officer, Zainab Aminu, who briefed the press said, there was about 150% increase in the report on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kano in the month of May.
“ln comparison with the data obtained in previous months, GBV cases are still on the increase. 85 cases were reported via our GBV App for the month which includes sexual harassment, online harassment, sexual abuse, and wife battering,” Zainab said.
She also called on the authorities to make concerted efforts to find solutions for various challenges affecting girl child development.
Zainab, urged government and relevant stakeholders, to unite in the fight against crime by, strengthening laws that would protect women and children against such heinous acts.
The Gender Project Officer, equally enjoined women to break the silence by speaking out and reporting their cases to the appropriate authorities for necessary actions.
