The Student Entrepreneurship Activity Hub (SEA-Hub) has disclosed that, it has reached over 5651 students in 84 schools in Plateau State.
While also leveraging on funding from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) SEA-Hub, during its Plateau State SEA-Hub Exhibition and Competition 2022, further disclosed that, almost 30,000 students (60% Girls) have been empowered through the organization in Edo, Niger, Lagos, Ogun and Plateau States.
It is of note that, the Student Entrepreneurship Activity Hub (SEA-Hub) is an initiative of the programme, Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment-SEDIN, which is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Business Development Committee Network (BDCN), among others.
The Plateau state Ministry of Education, which agreed with the effective intervention and the importance of SEA-Hub in the state schools through its Permanent Secretary during the occasion when it stated that, “Note of worthy, we can only achieve this global feat when we harness the potentials embedded on our youths. This could be achieved through SEA-Hub activities been promoted by GIZ”.
In his welcome address during the second (2nd) Plateau State SEA-Hub Competition, which held at Crispan Suite and Event Centre Jos, yesterday, the representative of GIZ SEDIN, Mr. O. Akin, explained that, “the first state competition took place in 2019 here in Jos, with participants from 29 SEA-Hub schools and great support from Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through the SEDIN programme, Ogun State Ministry of Education, the Business Development Committee Network (BDCN) and other partners.
“The lack of employment represents a serious challenge for the Nigerian economy and society.
“About 44% of the working-age populations are either, unemployed, underemployed or having retracted from the Labour Market. For young people, it is difficult to find full and productive employment and decent work.
“To harness and turn the growing youth unemployed population in the country into asset, we need an urgent focus on economic activities that can thrive and yield demographic dividends for the nation”.
Also, in an on-the-spot interview at the venue with Journalist, Mr. O. Akin in part said, “Studies of the Future Work suggest that, many traditional jobs will survive in the years to come and large companies will progressively look to more innovative and creative options offered by entrepreneurial endevours.
“SEA-Hub was therefore borne out of the need to improve skills and prepare young people for a secured future.
“By catching them young, SEA-Hub project is equipping secondary students with entrepreneurship training in the way that develops their skills to be agile, sustainable and transferrable in every changing environment and situation”.
On her part, Oladoyin Olawale, told Journalists that, the components look for way to improve the capacity of MSMEs in the Country.
She said in part that, “The component looks to capacitate MSMEs, build their capacity so that they will be able to start a business, grow and scale a business.
“In the course of us doing a lot of interventions with the MSMEs here on the Plateau and in other partner states because of the GIZ setting programme, we work in different partner states, Plateau being one.
“In the course of us doing our capacity building efforts with MSMEs, we found out that, MSMEs have a big gap with basic entrepreneurship challenge. A lot of MSMEs were lacking in financial literacy, they couldn’t keep proper records and we thought it best to start to think about our younger generation.
“We thought it wise that, we go a step lower and catch them young, so that when they are done with school and ready to start a business, they will have the right requisite skills for a business within a short period of time. That’s what brought the SEA-Hub intervention”.
