Nigerians have again been advised that the only way out of the present hardship being faced in the country today is to completely do away with electing leaders along religious and tribal lines.
A Lawmaker with the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, gave this advice Sunday at the thanksgiving service organized in honour of Chief John Bulus, the Community Leader of Plateau indigenes in Nasaraawa State.
The service was held at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).
Hon. Solomon said “When leadership is bestowed in the hands of nonentities such nation would continue to suffer the consequences”.
According to Hon. Akwashiki, who represents Lafia Central Constituency in the State Assembly added that “So long as we continue to practice the religious or tribal politics in Nigeria, we will continue to have bad Leaders that are bereaved of ideas because they were elected purely based on religion or tribe.
Hon. Solomon in his advice also asked how long this would continue in the country.
He said, "For how long would we as a nation continue to get it wrong? Why can't we for once bury both our religious and tribal differences and select or rather elect leaders purely on their merit and competence".
The Lawmaker, however, explained that the country has people with great Potential and the Technical Know-How that if given the opportunity it would not take them long to fix the country back into the path of its economic growth.
Adding that such talents were being denied the opportunity to lead or govern purely based on religious or ethnic grounds.
While thanking the Tudun Amba Community for their continued sustenance of peaceful coexistence, Hon. Akwashiki, promised to supply tiles for the floor of the newly constructed Church complex and also promised to table the worsening erosion situation that has completely made some streets unmottorable, as a Matter of Public Interest in the State Assembly for Government’s urgent attention.
Earlier in a sermon, the COCIN RCC Chairman, Reverend Dauda Bagu, stressed the need for Christians to always give thanks to God in whatever condition they find themselves.
Reverend Bagu also advised Christians to serve God with all sincerity of purpose because all signs indicating the second coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ into the World are overripe. Adding that "for sure the end time is at hand".
Also speaking, the celebrant, Chief John Bulus, said he has every reason to give thanks to God for the plethora of blessings He has showered on him and his family right from the time he served the Country as a policeman up till his retirement seven years ago.
The Community leader, who said that he was celebrating his 70th Anniversary further explained that he has every reason to return the glory to God, having gone down memory lane to recall how he survived bloody crises that he was assigned to alongside his colleagues who in most cases never survived it.
