PLATEAU: NLC, TUC DEMAND TOTAL REVERSAL OF NEW TARIFF, PLACE JEDC UNDER LOCK AND KEY

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its sister organization, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have demanded for a total reversal of the new tariff regime been charged by the Nigerian Government and the Electricity Distribution Companies and the outright cancellation of the Banding policy in operation across the country.

The protest though peaceful in Jos, the capital of Plateau state, is still be watched over by several security operatives in the state.

In an on-the–spot interview with Journalists at the Headquarters of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) Plc, at Rwang Pam Street in Jos, the Chairman of the NLC and the TUC, Mr. Eugene Mangji and Kenneth Shammah, both frowned at the unilateral increase in tariff, without considering the end users.

The NLC Chairman, Mr. Mangji, told REALITY that the expected outcome from the protest is the “Complete reversal of the new tariff and a call for negotiation with Labour and Nigerians, while the TUC Chairman, Mr. Kenneth in his reaction questioned the role been played by the Nigerian Regulatory Body despite the purported privatization of the Distribution Process.

They both called on the Company Management and the Federal Government to have a rethink and do the needful.
