By: Ifeanyi Okonkwo,

Chairman Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Joseph Chinedu Nwabueze has said the best way to better Anambra State Transport under the Trade Union System is for RTEAN to be fully in-change.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with REALITY Newspaper at RTEAN head office in Awka, the state capital, Nwabueze admitted that the fight against extortion, fraudulent activities, hooliganism in Anambra State transport system is not going to be easy but that they are ready to end the menace.

Nwabueze who lamented over the irregularities facing Anambra State transport system insisted that, “this is the beginning of the end for bad eggs”.

He revealed that RTEAN are the only authorized body backed with the Nigerian Constitution to control the transport activities and that they will continue to sensitize drivers and road users not to allow themselves to be extorted.

In his words: “The Executive Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has shot down some revenues especially on the transport sector and that very soon (before December) RTEAN will constitute a taxforce whose mission will be to end extortion in Anambra State”.

Nwabueze frowned at the persons who have high jacked the activities of the transport system in the state especially some illegal unions stating that it is a robbery to Anambra State Government because, everyday they lose money to hoodlums and strangers

“You must be an affiliate member of a trade union under the, Ministry of Transport before you can collect money. We will arrest anyone extorting because it is a dent to the state and union as well.

“RTEAN has sanitized and is generating huge revenue in Enugu, Delta, Imo, Abia, Abuja and other states and so, Anambra won’t be an exception”.
