The Esther Tyoden Commemorative Foundation(ETCF),as part of the celebration of “Pink October” donated equipment to the Jos University Teaching Hospital(JUTH) Oncology Unit to help in the treatment of Cancer Patients in the Hospital.
The brief ceremony, which held on 20th of October, 2021, at the Permanent site of JUTH, saw the Foundation donating an Industrial Refrigerator, 3 Ego Chemotherapy Chairs and Cash for the treatment of some patients in the unit.
Presenting the equipment, Member, Board of Trustee (BoT), ETCF, Mr. Bedari Hari said, they were inspired to support patients suffering from cancer because of their late mum, Mrs. Esther Tyoden, who died of cancer and the Foundation was set up in tribute to her.
“Treating cancer is expensive and can impoverish families, so we hope our donations and assistance can help not just in treatment, but also in reducing the risk and create awareness not just for breast cancer but for cancer as a disease”, Mr. Hari said.
According to Mr. Hari, the items donated are worth over a Million Naira and the Foundation went further to donate the sum of a One Hundred Thousand Naira to support the treatment of Three patients of the Hospital.
He thanked all the medical workers in the Oncology Unit and informed those present that commencing January 2022, the Foundation will be strengthening their partnership with the Oncology Unit of the Hospital by organizing breast and cervical cancer screening and sensitization sessions in rural areas across Plateau state targeting approximately 1000 women of reproductive age.
While appreciating the ETCF, the CMD of JUTH, Dr. Edmond Banwat, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Pokop Bupwatda said, the equipment would go a long way in reducing the burden on the patients.
He also appreciated all the Doctors and staff of the Unit, and said the management of the Hospital intends to have an Oncology Department in the future and already staff are being trained in preparation for it.
Dr. Bupwatda, used the occasion to appeal to other spirited individuals to emulate the Esther Tyoden Commemorative Foundation to come to the assistance of the Hospital as cancer is treatable once its detected early.
The Esther Tyoden Commemorative Foundation is a Small Relief and Development Organization that envisions a future where society’s most vulnerable are free from the burdens of disease and poverty founded in 2018.
