The Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned in strong terms the formation of the Nomad Vigilante Group in the State, noting that the formation of such a Vigilante group is capable of threatening the current peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the state.
In a Communique signed by the Council Secretary at the end of its monthly meeting held at the Union’s Secretariat, along Makurdi Road Lafia, the Union explained that there are existing vigilante groups in various communities and advised that anybody interested in the security of the state could join the existing ones.
The Congress also observed with deep concern the activities of Fake Journalists spreading across the state, as well as, impersonators.
The Union calls on its members to fish out such elements and report them to the State Council and the State Police Command for necessary action.
The Union also joined millions of Nigerians in congratulating the Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, on the affirmation of his victory at the Supreme Court, while urging him to be magnanimous in victory.
The meeting in session also kicked against threats to life of practicing journalists in the state by individuals, especially the political class. The Union appeals to Law enforcement agencies to protect Journalists against such heartless persons.
The Congress stressed the need for Journalists in the state to engage more in rural reporting and Investigative Journalism to expose the ills of society.
The Union also appealed to authorities of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the government to address the issue of high billings by providing pre-paid meters to customers, as most of its personnel have cashed in on the luck of the prepaid meters to defraud unsuspecting customers.
