It was a glorious and refreshing moment and energizer to Plateau State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, Tuesday as the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, firebrand women activist, Aisha Yesufu and other party juggernauts converged in Jos, the state capital in solidarity to LP Senatorial and House of Reps candidates in the February 3, 2024 re-run elections, Barrister Gyang Zi and Hon. Daniel Asama.
Obi and his entourage who landed at Yakubu Gowon Airport Heipang in early afternoon, were received by the LP chairman, Hon. Grace Zamfara, Hon. Fom Dalyop Chollom Sanchos, member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Hon. Alfred Ajang, member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, Barrister Gyang Zi, LP Plateau North Senatorial District candidate in the 3rd February, 2024 re-run election, Hon. Daniel Asama, LP candidate for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the re-run election and other state juggernauts of the party.
The state LP led the national August visitors through the heart of Bukuru and Jos metropolis to the city centre in terminus where Obi walked on the street receiving cheers and showing solidarity to Plateau and canvassing support for Zi and Asama.
Having gone around the city, they converged at Zumji Event Centre in Jos South where they addressed a crowd of party faithful.
PETER OBI
In his speech, Peter Obi gave reasons for his second visit to Plateau in 2024 and in less than a month, saying his topmost reason is to console and commiserate with the citizens over the recent skirmish in Mangu.
The second reason he added was to show solidarity campaign for Zi and Asama.
Obi who earlier called for a minute of silence to all who lost their lives in the skirmishes that greeted Plateau State said, “The first thing that brought us here was to most sincerely console you and the families of those who lost their lives, they might not be here, but they are not alone. We remember them in our prayers.”
Furthermore, the LP leader lamented the deteriorating state of Plateau describing it as a shadow of itself which is not supposed to be.
Reminiscing on Plateau’s past, Obi said the state used to be farm produce hub of the nation and a place always nominated for political, economic and other businesses’ meetings, but today these privileges have died out due to insecurity.
He called on all citizens to work hard and reverse the ugly trend which he described as mindless and criminally orchestrated killings, adding that the situation is dire as no one cares.
In soliciting support for the LP, Obi said the target of the party is to get Nigerians away from consumption to production through which the youth will seriously be engaged with something that will in turn drastically reduce criminality.
He strongly cautioned against vote buyers saying, “They will come as usual to buy your votes, not you here, go and preach to those people who are collecting money to be voting them, they are voting for more killings. They are voting for more hunger. They are voting for more trouble. They are voting for their school children not to be in school. That’s what they are voting for when they collect their money.”
Obi said they are calling on all and sundry to join hands with the LP to end criminality and make better the country where all Nigerians will be proud of.
Finally, he dispelled the attribution of his relentless visitations to Nigerians stroke by tragedies as desperation for power, saying he is not desperate for power, but desperate to see Nigeria and Nigerians get better. And that was the reason he is begging all and sundry to change the wrong narrative and work hard to secure the future of our children.
JULIUS ABURE
Much earlier, LP National Party Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure lamented over the high cost of living, saying that life is now unbearable to the greatest population; hence the need for the citizens to take their destiny in their hands by voting the right candidates the LP has provided. He said, “We must all come out to vote and defend our votes. I want to say clearly and categorically too that what happened to us in the general election of 2023, where there was an open robbery of our presidential mandate can never again happen.
“So, on Saturday come out and vote and defend your votes. Let’s work together with one spirit, with one mind, with unity of purpose, with collectivity, and we shall defeat them as victory is sure.”
Abure finally warned against falling prey to the scheme of lies as was done to Dr. Patrick Dakum by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections, saying they have started perpetrating lies again against Zi. He said Zi is flawless and bona fide to contest.
AISHA YESUFU
In her submission, the firebrand woman activist, Aisha Yesufu, called on all citizens within the re-run jurisdiction to come out and vote for LP, saying election is everything. And that if we don’t get the right leaders, we will be killed, our children will be abducted, our husbands and wives will be killed, and our lands will be taken over.
She said, “Enough is enough, Nigeria is for all of us. Plateau State is for all of us. Nobody has the right to decide the fate of the people. The people are being killed and the so-called president leaves the country on a private visit.
“I say to you, do not stay in your houses, this is beyond election. We are fighting for our lives. We are fighting to be protected. We are fighting for our lives that matter and lives of everyone.
“On Saturday, is not a day to stay in your houses to watch films. On Saturday, is a day to come out and vote for those that will speak for you; and those of you who are seeking for their votes, if you go in there and you do any how, una go see any how. The people will call una back.”
OTHERS
On their part Ajang and Sanchos promised to deliver for Zi being under his Constituency; while Zi and Asama promised not to betray their constituents, Plateau and Nigeria after their victory.
