PLATEAU: BREAKING NEWS: COURT OF APPEAL’S JUDGMENT REVIEW: APPLICANTS TO PAY, N136 MILLION TO 16 PLATEAU APC LAWMAKERS AND INEC

By: Amb. Valentine Adese (JP),

The Application filed by the 16 sacked Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly for review has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal Abuja Division today.

In their unanimous ruling, J.O.K. Oyewole           (PJCA), A.I. Banjoko (JCA) and A. B. Mohammed (JCA), held that the Application for review lacks merit.

As a deterrent, the Court has heavily fined the Applicants to pay N136 Million to the Respondents.

According to the ruling, the Applicants are to pay N8 Million Naira each to all the 16 Members and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as a penalty for wasting the Court's time.

Upon dismissing their plea for a review, pundits who spoke to REALITY concerning the ruling said, “The path is now clear for the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, to swear in the 16 newly elected members”.

Adding that, “This ruling brings to a closure the uncertainty that had been created over the Judgment of the Appeal Court Election Petition Tribunal, particularly with the recent stand of the Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker.

You would recall that the Speaker had declared that he would only recognize Seven Members of the House following the Supreme Court’s declaration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang as the Governor of Plateau State.
