As the world sets to commemorate the International Day of Social Justice, the Universal Peace and Violence Amelioration Centre (UPVAC), a Non-Governmental Organization is set to embark on a significant initiative aimed at addressing the pressing needs of over 7000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State Nigeria.
Recognizing the urgency of extending support to the IDPs and the vulnerable Bokkos Community that have come under attacks recently, UPVAC has planned to organize a comprehensive Outreach Program to mark the 2024 International Day of Social Justice, tomorrow, the 20th of February 2024 at the IDP camp in Bokkos. REALITY gathered.
This initiative, REALITY further gathered is aimed at, bridging the gap for social justice through a multifaceted approach, focusing primarily on Health Outreach and Educational Empowerment.
From facts available to REALITY, the cornerstone of the Outreach’s efforts include, “a robust health intervention program that encompasses screening and provision of essential medical services”.
It was further gathered that Volunteers would administer screenings for HIV, Hepatitis B & C, blood pressure, diabetes, pregnancy-related care, and malaria, and bring the much-needed medical attention to those who need it the most.
Speaking exclusively to REALITY, the Leadership of UPVAC disclosed that, “In addition to healthcare provisions, UPVAC aims to uplift the spirits and prospects of the camp residents by distributing food items, clothing, footwear, books and other non-food items.
“The distribution of books is particularly significant as it marks the inception of a literacy club within the camp, fostering educational opportunities and intellectual enrichment despite challenging circumstances.
“The project is made possible by the generous contributions of major sponsors and donors, including AG Medical Service Ltd and NASCO Foods Ltd, underscores the power of collaboration and collective action in advancing social justice.
“Their support has not only enabled the provision of vital resources but also serves as a beacon of hope for the marginalized communities of Plateau state.
The success of this initiative hinges on the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, and stakeholders who have rallied behind the cause of social justice”.
It is of note that, by extending a helping hand to the Bokkos IDPs’ camp, UPVAC has further reaffirmed its commitment, “to creating a more equitable and inclusive society, where the inherent dignity and rights of all individuals are upheld and respected”.
You would recall that on the International Day Against, Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which was marked on 26th July 2023, UPVAC organized a highly impactful sensational campaign at NTA, Television College in Jos, Plateau State.
