---TRAIN THE QUACKS WITHIN YOUR COMMISSION, NUJ CHAIRMAN, TELLS FRSC

The Zonal Commanding Officer, RS4 Jos, ACM Meshack A. Jatau (fwc) of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reminded Journalists in Plateau State and the country at large that they are one of the major stakeholders in road safety operations in the country and the Commission would always need their cooperation and inputs in enlightening citizens on the useful tips on safe driving.

The Zonal Commander gave this remark during a courtesy call on the leadership of the Plateau State Council of the NUJ led by Chairman, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo today, 18^th of April, 2024.

FRSC AND NUJ MEMBERS AT NUJ HALL

According to the Commander, it was the lack of safety on the Nigerian roads that led to the establishment of the FRSC and that, “the road safety job is a collective duty to which journalists are partners”.

Adding that, “A driver needs to go through several training processes to be qualified and be authorized based on FRSC standard to use the road. It is the lack of these trains that has caused high accidents on our roads. We cannot afford to have more records of these deaths. From records, 1.5 million road accident deaths are recorded annually, and out of this figure, 90% are from Africa and Nigeria is one of these African countries.

“These accidents affect more of our productive youths and therefore affect the future of the country and this is why we try to sensitize our youths. This is because the death of one person always has multiplier effects and introduces several social vices in our communities.

MRS. AYUKU SPEAKS

“However, our major focus is on the “Driver’s License”. We are therefore calling on Journalists to cooperate and assist the Commission in this direction”.

However, in her welcoming remarks, the Chairman of Plateau State Council of the NUJ, Mrs. Ayuku, charged the Commission to establish a driving school to avoid poor training of drivers, clear obstruction on the state roads, and train alleged quacks within the Commission to understand the job better.
