The Chairman, APC Electoral Committee for Plateau State, Mr. Musa, who conducted the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Plateau North Senatorial seat has called on the State Party Chairman, Commissioner for Education and the Government of the state to increase the number of “Adult Education” in the state.
The Committee Chairman stated this at the end of the APC primary election for Plateau North Senatorial seat held on Saturday 28th May, 2022, at Langfield Leisure and Event Centre, Rayfield in which, Amb. Chris Giwa emerged winner.
He openly lamented that, “After the successful conduct of this election, I am calling on the party Chairman, Commissioner for Education and the State Government to make more provision in order to increase Adult Education in the state because of the high level of illiteracy displayed by the delegates”.
Although, Giwa score 213 votes to win the race against Hon. Mafeng Gwellson the Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council (LGC) of Plateau State, who scored 150 votes, there were serious concerns of why, Hon. Lumumba Dah Adey stepped down.
More so, all contestants, party officials, INEC, Security and the press accepted the process and results, but the Committee Chairman, lamented over the high level of illiteracy displayed by the delegates.
You would recall that, REALITY had reported that, few hours to the commencement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Primary Elections in Plateau State, a former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Jos-North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Hon. Lumumba Dah Adeh had withdrawn from the race for the Northern Senatorial Zone primary election, citing “factors beyond his control and that the election has already been determined”.
In his letter of withdraw, dated May 28th May, 2022, which he personally signed and addressed to the Chairman of APC Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature and copied to H.E. Bar. Simon Bako Lalong, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Idris Maje, the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, the Chairman of APC Senatorial Elections Committee to Plateau State, Tahu Ward Chairman, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, the Director DSS, the REC, INEC Plateau State and the APC Plateau North Zone Chairman, Hon. Lumumba stated in part that, he took the decision after reviewing the prevailing situation.
“I write to inform you that, I have withdrawn from the APC Plateau State Northern Senatorial District primary election. The decision was taken after a review of prevailing situation and extensive consultations with stakeholders”. He stated.
From REALITY findings, the letter had already hit the table of the APC Plateau State Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature and the Chairman of APC Senatorial Elections Committee to Plateau State before the commencement of the Senatorial primary election.
However, in his acceptance speech the APC Plateau North Senatorial flag bearer, Amb. Giwa, appreciate God all for the support and peaceful conduct of the election, after being declared winner. He promised to carry everyone along as they journey to 2023 general election.
In same vein, Hon. Gwellson also pledged support for the party, despite losing the contest.
