PLATEAU: FGN vs SEN. JANG & ANOTHER: EFCC TO CLOSE CASE NEXT WEEK

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

The case brought by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) against the former governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah Jang and a Cashier, Mr. Yusuf Pam, who worked in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) is finally costing to an end, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may close the Prosecution’s case next week.

From its last sitting last week, the Plateau State High Court fixed the 11th, 12th and 13th of May, 2022, for the EFCC to continue and close its case and for the defense to begin.

However, there are strong indications that, the Defendants, may be filing for a No Case Submission, a thought that is not comfortable to the EFCC’s Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), as he threatens to stop further cooperation with the Defense Counsels.

According to Rotimi (SAN), the EFCC would not be comfortable, if the matter would be handled by a third (3rd) Judge.

You would recall that, the case is currently been tried by a second Judge, after the retirement of Hon. Justice Longji, who first presided over the matter.

In another development, the Court would be ruling in its next sitting on whether, the statement made by Mr. Yusuf Pam that was tendered by the prosecution was obtained under duress by the EFCC at its headquarters in Abuja.
