PLATEAU: IS ANYONE CONTESTING AGAINST, RT. HON. YUSUF GAGDI (APC), RT. HON. JOHNBULL SHEKARAU (PDP) AND GOV. SIMON LALONG (APC)? PUNDITS ARE ASKING

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

As the days for the primary elections for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) draws closer, Political Observers across the nation, have began to query and scrutinize the ongoing political process. They have also started asking question(s) to know, if the contests that were displaced on posters that had defaced several city centers have become obvious.

Particularly in Plateau State, the many voices and jingles that once thrilled and filled the air, seem to have died down and the posters, which had shown expression of intentions, now seem to be giving way to anticipated posters of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

One critical political office that has continued to attract the interest of Pundits in Plateau State is that of the Member, House of Representatives, especially, for Member representing, Panshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituencies of Plateau State and the Senator representing, Plateau South Senatorial District.

As it stands, the incumbent member representing, Panshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, seeks to return and the incumbent Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, seeks to become the Senator to represent the Southern zone under the platform of the APC, while the former member, who represented, Qua’anpan/Mikang/Shendam, Rt. Hon. Johnbull Shekarau, also seeks to be the Senator representing the Southern zone, but under the platform of the PDP.

In recent days, these three gladiators have become most visible Aspirants known and active in the state.

Pundits in the state are therefore concerned and eager to know, who their fellow contestants are as their various party primaries draw nearer.

For, Rt. Hon. Johnbull Shekarau, he has told the media in Jos yesterday that, he is also keen to know his fellow contestant(s) as it would make him more prepared for the contest, but he is yet to be told of any.

RT. HON. JOHNBULL

He also disclosed that, he has caused a debate among constituents to enable him measure himself with his fellow contestants, if any and that, rather than been told, he found posters of Aspirants for the Senate office, disappearing from the streets in the Southern District.

RT. HON. GAGDI

Concerning, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi in the APC, it seems as a free ride for him, as many, who earlier indicated interest may have stepped aside with the cost of purchasing the party form. However, the name of one Hon. Alice Dimonlong, from Pankshin is in the air.

Pundits, have however dismissed this, as a “No Contest”, as it is not between two elephants.  Secondly, that even if there is a fellow contestant(s) in the APC primary election, the pedigree and achievements of Rt. Hon. Gagdi, within the past three years, stands tall.

GOV. LALONG

On the part of the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, his aspiration to get the Senatorial ticket to contest seems dusted, cleared and handed over to him by the Legacy Group led by Rt. Hon. Yusuf Gagdi and Mr. Yakubu Dati, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning, coupled with the fact that, Dame Pauline. K. Tallen OFR, KSG, Honourable Minister Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, just withdrew from the race.
