PLATEAU GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANTS’RANKING: PIDAN EXPLAINS TO JOURNALISTS, DEBUNKS ALLEGATION

Plateau Indigenous Development Association (PIDAN) has explained that, its latest ranking of Governorship Aspirants in Plateau State is aimed at bringing out the best candidates to contest in the coming 2023 governorship election, as the ranking poll took into account and focused on the immediate needs of the people.

The President, Prof. Aboi J.K. Madaki, said based on PIDAN’s strategy for equity in governance and power sharing, the poll and its ranking was completely focused on the Central zone of the state and the governorship Aspirants that have shown interest whether formally or not.

Speaking to Journalists today, at the NUJ Press Center in Jos, the President of PIDAN, Prof. Aboi J.K. Madaki, said, “This strategy for equity in governance and power sharing recommended by the Autochthones has been deliberated upon by the key stakeholders and adopted for implementation. It is envisaged that, the implementation of the strategy will usher in the much needed peace and equity in governance of the state”.

Prof. Aboi, flanked by some members of PIDAN’s Executives, also took the opportunity of the Media interaction, to debunk the rumour making the rounds that, PIDAN collected over Five Million (N5,000,000.00) to execute the exercise and publish same. In his defense to the allegation among others, Prof. Aboi, laughingly told Journalists to help PIDAN trace the money, as the body is in dare need of finance, “because, for PIDAN, we are committed to Plateau”.

Adding that, “those who were ranked were based on two rounds of exercises, identified as 1^st and 2^nd rounds, using the following criteria:-

1. Plateau state security challenges and understanding/participation of the candidate,
2. Relevance/participation in church/mosque activities,
3. Community development participation/projects and
4. Understanding/practices of good leadership/governance. Respondents were made to rank the Aspirants.

As a follow up to the publication of the ranking, PIDAN promises to continue to engage with the political parties in the state.
