As the political battle for 2023 general elections begins, the achievements of Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State have started paving ways for him to go to the Nigerian Senate.

The proponents of this idea believe that, Governor Lalong would replicate his feat in governance and his experience in Lawmaking at the Senate, if supported and given the chance.

To push for the support of this idea, the promoters have stated and reiterated in several fora that, “Governor Lalong’s giant strides in restoring peace on the Plateau has endeared him to many.

“The payment of pension and salaries to civil servants has further entrenched his legacy of service and compassion.

The group under the aegis of PLATEAU LEGACY GROUP, making good their campaign to drag the Governor into the race for the Senate seat of Plateau Southern Senatorial District, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) SENATORIAL NOMINATION FORM.

Relying on the strides of the Governor, the Statement from the Commissioner’s Forum stated that, “Governor Simon Lalong has restored Plateau to its place of reckoning by promoting peaceful coexistence and developmental projects for the benefit of the common citizens irrespective of tribe, religion and creed.

The Commissioners further enumerated the leadership qualities of Governor Simon Lalong who, as the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum has promoted unity and accommodation amongst different spheres.

According to Yakubu Dati, in the statement he signed, “The Senate position will enable the entire country to benefit from his demonstrated leadership potentials”.

The Commissioners also encouraged the youths, women, and elders, both appointed and elected beneficiaries to join other stakeholders (who are meeting day and night) to key into the victory train.

“The Commissioners have concluded plans to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms along with Prof Danladi Atu, the Secretary of the Government of the State (SGS) and the erudite Chief of Staff, Hon Noel Donjur on Tuesday, in line with the APC guidelines released by the national secretariat”. However, while presenting the Senatorial nomination form to Chairman of the group, on behalf of the Governor, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Mohammed Argungu, commended the group for the love shown to their Governor, which made them the first to obtain the APC Senatorial Nomination form with serial number senate 001.

“The decision to buy the APC senatorial nomination form for Governor Lalong ahead of his formal declaration to contest the Southern Plateau Senatorial seat is in line with the mission of the group to ensure the sustenance of Lalong legacies.

“The reward for good work is more work, hence the need to send Lalong to the National Assembly to represent the people of his zone.

“Having meritoriously served Plateau state for eight years as Governor with equanimity, it is time Lalong concentrates his sterling leadership on his zone in order to bring democracy dividends to the nooks and crannies of the six local government areas that make up Plateau South”.
