In an effort to contribute to the fight against corruption in Nigeria, the Center for Information Technology And Development (CITAD) trains Journalists from North-East, North-West and North Central part of Nigeria.
The 2-day training, organized by CITAD was held at Pali Suite Hotel, Bauchi, Bauchi State.
For the record, CITAD is a capacity building Civil Society Organization (CSO) that covers areas of Research, Advocacy and Publicity.
Earlier, while addressing Journalists about the training, the Executive Director, CITAD, Yunusa Z Yau, urged the participant to remain focus as the training would expose reporters to some of the tools that can be used in researching and reporting corruption related issues in the country most especially, at community level.
Speaking at length on some of the expectations of the program, one of the facilitators, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, ED, CISLAC said, the training is also aimed at forming a network of Journalists from different parts of Nigeria, who would be fight against corruption from their various media houses.
Dr. Jamila Dahiru, a lecturer with the Department of Mass Communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, while presenting a paper, “Paying Attention to Reporting Conflict”, during the 2-days training, maintained that, the level of occurrence of corruption cases in the country does not leave any area untouched. She pointed out few among critical sectors’ of budget lines for security patronage and bribes to secure the purchase of military equipment, kickbacks to pay for suppliers among others.
On her own part, Mrs. Kemi Okenyedo, founder, Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, trained the participants on security and the safety of Journalists reporting corruption.
Highlights of the event include group work and presentations on examining various manifestation/ dimensions of corruption at community level and examining the challenges of reporting corruption and how to address them by the participants.
