NASARAWA: Tiv Cultural Day: GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PROMOTE CULTURAL FESTIVITIES

Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the promotion of cultural festivities amongst various ethnic groups in the state as a tool, “for the promotion of peaceful co-existence among its citizenry.

The State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who disclosed this in Imon Village on Saturday at the venue of the Tiv Cultural Day, called on every socio-cultural organization in the state to always organize their cultural festivities.

The Governor noted that “this would not only promote peace but would go a long way in providing them with the dividends of Democracy”.


 

Represented by the Permanent Secretary Administration, Government House, Alh. Umaru Idris, Governor Sule commended the officials of the Tiv Development Association (TIDA) for the continued annual organization of the Tiv Day cultural festival, as his administration would continue to give them the necessary backing.

He disclosed that, recently, the Assakio community organized their fishing festival in which the state government was fully represented as he called on other ethnic groups to emulate the government’s gesture.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the TIDA President, Comrade Solomon Chunku, who was full of praises to Governor Sule for the opportunity he gave Tiv sons and daughters to serve in his cabinet, appealed to him to create a Tiv Chiefdom for the community to enable them to have a sense of belonging.

Comrade Chunku also appealed to the State Government to as a matter of urgency resettle the displaced Tiv community that were forced out of their settlement as a result of crises that were witnessed within the Tiv enclaves in recent times.

According to him, “most of their kinsmen and Women are still suffering in refugee camps”.

The TIDA President explained that the annual festival was being organized annually to promote peaceful co-existence not only within the Tiv people as a community but with their neighbors also. He appealed to the Tiv community to always embrace peace wherever they found themselves.

Comrade Chunku commended the State Government for always being there for them and promised to give the administration their unflinching support at all times.
