Plateau: Dr. Patrick Dakum and Edward Pwajok (SAN) are Labour Party Leaders, Not Amb. Yohanna Margif—State Chapter

By: Alfred Saiki,

The Labour Party in Plateau state has come out to state categorically clear that, Hon. Grace Zamafara is still the Chairman of the state chapter.

In a statement by the state chapter, signed by Comrade Awara James Adara, the state PRO, made available to REALITY, the Party went further to assure the public and party faithful that, Dr. Patrick Dakum and Barr. Edward Pwajok (SAN) remain the leaders of the Party in the State.

You would recall that, a statement signed by Comr. Mike Audu and Lorenzo Y. Gotau on the 9th of June 2023, had referred to Hon. Grace Zamfara as “Former State Chairperson of Labour Party” following an alleged Vote of no Confidence passed on her by the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Party on the 17th of May 2023.

However, Comrade Awara, the state PRO, in his statement, while debunking the alleged publication stated that, “We sincerely want to recognise all our stakeholders and elders in the party and urge our party faithful and the general public to disregard the self-acclaimed leaders (Comr. Mike Audu and Hon. Lorenzo Y. Gotau).

“The State EXO makes bold to state that, at no time did the Chairmen of the seventeen (17) local governments of the Labour Party in Plateau state, nor the State Executive ever passed a “Vote of no Confidence” on any of its leadership in the state.

“For the sake of emphasis, our Stake Holders, Elders and party faithful should note that, Dr. Patrick Sunday Dakumand Barr. Edward Pwajok (SAN) remain the leaders of the Labour Party, Plateau State chapter, while Hon. Grace Zamfara is the State Party chairman.”

He reiterated that, “The Labour Party is an organised body guided by a well-spelt out Constitution”.

Comr. Adara, while explaining the status as it relates to Amb. Yohanna Margif, stated in part that, “At no point was Amb. Yohanna Margif mentioned as the leader of the Labour Party in Plateau State.

“What transpired was that, Amb. Yohanna Margif has reconciled with the party at the National level. Therefore, it was just to inform the State EXCO where other necessary actions will be taken based on the Labour Party Constitution to follow due process.

“Our attention has been drawn to a baseless press publication that has gone viral in many social media platforms, indicating a purported emergence of, Amb. Yohanna Margif as the leader of the party’s chapter in Plateau State.

“This is the highest level of deceit and misleading. The State EXCO hereby distances itself from the publication.

“It must be noted with clear evidence and records that, Amb. Yohanna Margif, had a litigation, which ended up in the Supreme Court in favour of our principal, Dr. Sunday Dakum. Nowhere can the Party leadership at whatever level reverse such in favour of Amb. Yohanna Margif.”
