The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission is demanding for whopping sum of over N669 Million in order to conduct hitch free elections, in the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Already, the Commission has fixed, October 6th, 2021, for the conduct of the elections, while the ban on all forms of campaigns have been lifted with immediate effect.
The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Ayuba Wandai Usman, disclosed this on Wednesday, at a news briefing in Lafia.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission to carry out its statutory responsibility of organizing, undertaking, and supervising elections into local government councils, as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) including other relevant laws.
Alh. Ayuba stated that, “the Commission has by the powers conferred on it, fixed 6th October, 2021, to conduct elections for both Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in all the 13 Local Government Areas and 147 electoral wards in the state”.
Adding that, “Nomination Forms, shall be obtained between Thursday 22nd to Tuesday, 27th July, 2021, and to be returned on completion at NASIEC Headquarters, Lafia along Shendam road, between Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd August 2021.
The NASIEC Chief Executive further disclosed that, Thursday, 15th to Sunday, 18th July, is the timeline for the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries for both the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
Alh. Ayuba assured aspirants of the Commission’s preparedness to “conduct a free, credible and transparent election across the state”.
It would be recalled that, the tenure of the 2018 elected officials of Local Government Councils’ leadership in the state, would expired on May 28, thereby creating vacuums in all the Councils.
