Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has commended the Forum of Ethnic Nationalities for organizing a youth summit aimed at promoting unity among different tribes in the state.
Governor Sule, gave this commendation in Lafia, the state capital, at the maiden edition of “Nasarawa State Youth Summit”, organized by the Forum of State Ethnic Nationalities, yesterday.
The Governor explained that, the aims and objectives of the Forum was in tandem with the programs of his administration hence he is “encouraging the organizers not to rest on their oars”.
He disclosed that, “Government would partner with them and any group that is prepared to support the peace efforts of his administration in his efforts to bring about the rapid development of the state”.
The Guest Speaker at the occasion, Prof. Shehu Abdulrahman, described youths as the greatest assets that would harness all forms of investment for a nation’s development, adding tha,t they (youths) should be encouraged to contribute their quota in peace and nation building.
He said, “Policy makers at all levels should provide decent opportunities for the youths to have a decent lives, as a way of tackling insecurity”.
The Guest Speaker, who is the Voice Chancellor of the Federal University Lafia, opined that, youths when engage can be a source of labour inputs, as well as, human capital in production that would lead to high productivity, which can also bring about total reduction in crime rate.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the coordinator of the Forum, Mr. John Kyuni-Umaru, explained that, the group comprises all indigenous and none indigenous ethnic youth groups residing in the state.
He disclosed that, “the aim of organizing the summit by the Coalition was mainly to promote peaceful coexistence and build bridges of unity amongst all tribes irrespective of religion or ethnic differences”.
He also said that, the forum would organized other programmes such as, peace rally, football competition and cultural festival among the various ethnic groups in the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
He took the occasion to also announce that, the Forum has concluded arrangement to commence guidance and counseling services, as well as, skills acquisition programmes for inmates, who are mostly youths at the Nigeria Correctional Centers in the state.
