ENHANCE INDUSTRIAL HARMONY, ACADEMIC STAFF UNION ADVISES NASARAWA STATE GOVT.

The Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, Nasarawa State branch of the Academic Staff Union has made a personate appeal to the state government to commence the immediate payment of salary arrears and other entitlements of staff of the institution to enhance industrial harmony.

The Chairman of the Union, Comrade Sylvester Aku, made the appeal, at a Two-day National Conference of the Union in Lafia, the State capital.

According to the Union leader, lecturers in the polytechnic had for over Ten years, not been given their statutory benefits especially, annual increments of salaries and implementation of promotions among others, which he said has brought about major setbacks for research works and staff productivity.

Comrade Aku, called on the state government to initiate a framework for sustainable development of science and technology where substantial resources would be disbursed to all technical institutions in the state annually as part of steps towards engaging more youths in skills.

Comrade Sylvester Aku, who was speaking on the theme, Nigeria at Cross Roads of Development Technology, Security, Governance, Pandemics and Sustainability, stressed the need for leaders to focus attention to adopting local means of solving problems instead of relying on foreign assistance.
