PLATEAU PDP: DIRECTIVE TO WITHDRAW ALL CASES FROM COURT, GETS 80% COMPLIANCE---INVESTIGATION

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

The members of the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seem to have expressing solidarity and support for the Caretaker Committee (CTC) set up by the National Office of the party, to manage the affairs of the chapter pending the resolution of all pending issues and conducting a fresh congress for the chapter, as over 80% of aggrieved members have gone to withdraw their cases in court as directed.

You would recall that, just recently major stake holders of the chapter, the former Governors of the state, Sir, Fidelis Tapgun, Sen. Da Jonah Jang, among others, also met with members of the CTC, to express their support for them.

REALITY, in the course of this investigation gathered that, the CTC has met directly with aggrieved persons/groups in order to tailor a way forward for the chapter.

REALITY investigation reveals that, the CTC simply wants to have a cast and solid foundation of a family union in the chapter before delving into other electioneering matters, especially, as it affects the PDP in the state.

Also gathered in the course of the investigation is that, the CTC has taken steps to see that, the party and its candidates are not stopped from participating in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections that would be conducted by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) soon.

Not been satisfied with the body language of PLASIEC, the CTC through the party’s Lawyers has instituted Three (3) major suits against the umpire.

These legal actions include, the suit challenging the powers of PLASIEC not to issue Nomination Forms to the party and its candidates, based on a letter/petition, from an aggrieved member/group.

The second contains an application to stop PLASIEC from taking any further action(s) concerning the conduct of the LGC elections pending the determination of the Suits before the Plateau State High Court.

You would recall that, the Plateau State PDP EXCO, was dissolved by the national office of the PDP in compliance to Judgments of Courts from the Plateau State High Court and in its place, the CTC was set up.

REALITY however, gathered that, the list of candidates of the party submitted by the CTC was rejected and marked as such, citing the petition before the Commission by the leadership of PLASIEC.

As a follow up to the Commission’s position, PLASIEC also had failed to honour the Plateau State PDP’s invitation officially extended to it to cover the primary elections of the party in preparation for the LGC elections.
