ANAMBRA 2021: OZIGBO REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STRENGTHEN TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS

By: Ifeanyi Okonkwo,

Valentine Ozigbo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer in the 2021 Anambra governorship election has promised to strengthen traditional institutions and promote Igbo traditions if elected governor.

Mr. Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, gave the assurance on Saturday, September 25, 2021, when he was a special guest at the 2021 New Yam Festival (Iwa Ji) of His Royal Majesty Igwe Sir Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka, Oke-Ebo II of Umueri.

While speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the colourful event, Ozigbo hailed Igwe Emeka for upholding rich Igbo traditions like the New Yam Festival.

According to Ozigbo, cultural events like the Iwa Ji have high economic potential which could be exploited for tourism if there is adequate government backing.

“Our cultural practices, such as the New Yam festival, hold enormous potential. They represent our unique identity and the infinite possibilities for our future,” Ozigbo declared.

“What we need are deliberate investment, an awakening of our creative energies, and keen business focus into the culture and tourism industry, and there will be an explosion of potential.

“I have always promoted Igbo culture, and I will continue to do so if elected governor,” Ozigbo pledged.

The multiple award-winning global CEO is currently touring the 21 local government areas of Anambra State in his bid to deepen his grassroots engagements.
