Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Anambra branch has vowed to end extortion, fraudulent activities, hooliganism in Anambra State transport system.
Speaking in an event held at RTEAN head office in Awka, the state capital, National President of RTEAN, Musa Muhammad Maitakobi, lamented of the irregularities facing Anambra State transport system. He insisted that, “this is the beginning of the end for bad eggs”.
Maitakobi, who was represented by the Vice President Logistics and Planning, Mr. Kingsley Maduagwuna stated that, RTEAN are the only authorized body backed with the Nigerian Constitution to control the transport activities. He urged Ndi-Anambra to embrace RTEAN, whose mission is to promote the economy of the state.
Chairman of RTEAN, Anambra State chapter, Mr. Joseph Chinedu Nwabueze, frowned at the persons who have high jacked the activities of the transport system in the state.
“A lot of hooligans are on the roads, and parks, extorting drivers. Anambra State Government has spent a lot of money on taskforce, but we are here to change the irregularities and ensure that the right things are going to be done. We will work with government and all security agencies to end this menace”.
Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Anambra State, Mr. Okechukwu Ifeanyi, in his remarks, lamented over the revenue been lost by the state government to some unknown persons in the transport system.
He assured RTEAN of the support of Governor Willie Obiano’s led administration urging them to take the bull by the horn.
The event, which theme is, “Best Way to Better Anambra State Transport Under the Trade Union System”, had in attendance, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers, Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA) officers and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
